The FAI has announced that Ireland will host England in an international friendly at the Aviva Stadium in June 2015. The two countries met at Wembley last may and the FAI Chief Executive John Delaney had said earlier this year that he was hopeful the two football organisations would arrange another match between the two countries in the not too distant future.

The FAI released a statement this afternoon making the announcement which read “The Football Association of Ireland today announced that England will make a historic first visit to the new Aviva Stadium on Sunday, June 7, 2015.  Martin O’Neill and Roy Keane’s EURO 2016 campaign gets underway this autumn and the season ticket will include exciting home matches in that campaign, amongst them Scotland and Poland as well as the much anticipated England friendly match on June 7.”

The friendly match between the two last May was the first meeting between the two sides in 18 years following the crowd trouble that marred their last game in 1995. The success of that game last May which ended in a one all draw has lead both the FAI and the FA to consider hosting a friendly between the two countries more often.
