Ahead of the August Bank Holiday weekend, An Garda Síochána and the Road Safety Authority (RSA) will publish a road safety progress review, covering the period January 1 – July 29, 2019. The media briefing will take place in Store Street Garda Station on Thursday 1 August at 11.00am.

The review will provide details of road fatalities up to July 29, 2019, analysed by road-user group, age and location, and will identify where increases and reductions in road fatalities have taken place, as well as at risk groups.

An Garda Síochána will discuss their planned enforcement activity to address high risk behaviour. The RSA will provide a forecast of road safety statistics for the remainder of 2019, based on the current trend.

An Garda Síochána will showcase the Mobility App, currently in pilot, which allows Gardai to detect non-compliance by motorists. This technology facilitates the identification of a range of offences at the road side, in particular disqualified drivers, unaccompanied learner drivers and those driving uninsured. The introduction by An Garda Síochána of this mobile phone technology will revolutionise the road traffic policing function and is the most important development in roads policing since the introduction of the roadside breathalyser test.

The briefing will be followed by media interviews and a photo-call.
