An Garda Síochána’s New Computer Aided Dispatch System

In February 2023 a new Computer Aided Dispatch system known as ‘GardaSAFE’ was introduced as part of a phased roll-out to An Garda Síochána.

This new system is designed to enhance and improve the response and allow more efficient use of their resources thereby ensuring that the public receive the best possible response.

GardaSAFE sees all calls requiring the dispatch of a Garda resource handled by a number of regionally located control centres. These control centres are staffed by trained call takers and call dispatchers; all Garda Personnel.

Currently ‘GardaSAFE’ is operational in three of the four Regional Control Centres: North West, South and East. It is to be rolled out in the Dublin Metropolitan Region Control Centre by the end of 2023.

What this new system means for the public is, now, when they call their local Garda Station and their call requires the dispatch of a Garda resource (eg Garda in an Official Patrol Car, Unmarked Garda Car, Armed Support Unit), the call will be transferred to a qualified call taker at the Regional Control Centre. This call taker will handle the call and provide the fastest and most suitable Garda response.

How the public interact with An Garda Síochána remains unchanged. All Garda Stations remain open to the public and the public can continue to contact us in the normal way by telephone, email or by visiting their local station.

The public should always call 999/112 in an emergency or urgent situation. These calls will be linked directly to the Regional Control Centres where again the fastest and most suitable Garda response will be provided.
