Retired Supt. Nicky Conneely has vast experience of of arranging outings for groups and has travelled the globe. However, the Galway native has a particular love for the “Wild Atlantic Ways” along the West Coast of Ireland. On the week-end of 12th & 13th August, Nicky is planning to bring a group of GSRMA members / spouses/ partners, to the Aran Islands (Oileain Arran) located at the mouth of Galway-Bay. This is an ideal mid-summer opportunity for members, to travel by rail, bus and ferry to the Aran Islands – stay in local Bed & Breakfast accommodation, relax and enjoy old customs, traditions and breath some fresh air.

Nicky Connelly, served for many years in Dublin and is a Dublin North GSRMA member. So far some of his Dublin Branch colleagues have registered with him for the Aran Islands – August Visit. GSRMA members from other areas are also welcome to contact Nicky, if they wish to travel with his group.

Travelling from Dublin (Free-Travel Pass)

Depart Heuston Station on 11.30 Hours to arrive in Galway at 2.15 pm (approx). Check-in with Ferry Company ( You will need your Free-Travel Pass) for journey to Kilronan. Arrive on Island at 6.30 pm. Book into Guest House accommodation. Evening meal with group in nearby American Bar. Following breakfast on Saturday, enjoy the day at your leisure, be it walking, cycling, see the old crafts, old traditions and cultures. In the evening, enjoy a drink, sing-song and the craic. On Sunday morning, you will have an opportunity to mix with locals, if you care to attend the 11.30 am Mass.

Travelling from Other Areas

You will need to meet Nicky Conneely and his Dublin Group at Galway Rail Station at 2.15 pm (Friday, 12th August.). Make sure you have registered with Nicky and that you are in possession of your Free Travel Pass.

Bed & Breakfast Accommodation

Once you register with Nicky, he will make reservation with the Ferry Company and also book the two nights B & B accommodation for you. B & B will cost approximately €40 per night.
