Death of retired Garda to be investigated
Gardaí have launched a criminal investigation after the death of a retired Garda who died following an assault last weekend. A post mortem later this week revealed that he had received injuries before he died.
Seamus Marren, 57, was attacked at his home in Dublin last Saturday, 26th October.
While he was discharged from hospital following treatment, he subsequently became ill and was returned to hospital but passed away later last week.
Gardaí are following a particular line of inquiry in the investigation.
A number of people have been interviewed but no arrests have been made.
Mr Marren retired from the Gardaì in 2011 after serving in a number of stations in Dublin and had also been assigned to Áras an Uachtaráin.
