Free Walking Events in Kerry Next Week

Community walks are taking place across the county of Kerry next week as part of the Let’s Get Kerry Walking the Distance campaign.

Kerry Recreation and Sports Partnership in association with Radio Kerry’s Deirdre Walsh, is encouraging communities to make an effort and get more active with this campaign. Let’s Get Kerry Walking the Distance is the county’s first countywide walking event, and is running from September 24th to 30th.

Community led walking groups and clubs are inviting new walkers to join them in the free weekly activities for the opportunity to socialise, meet new people and get active; while having a bit of fun. Activities include: mindful hikes, Skellig Monks trails, beach runs, wildlife workshops, and evening astronomy walks. The wildlife workshop is part of a series of walking-themed workshops being run on Saturday 29th and gives families the chance to get outside, get active, and learn a thing or two. Arthritis Ireland are supporting the campaign by facilitating three walks during the week, two taking place in Tralee and one in Killarney.

The walking week coincides with National Walking Day and the European Week of Sport, offering a variety of enjoyable, and challenging, walks across Ardfert, Castlegregory, Killarney, Killorglin and Listowel.

Let’s Get Kerry Walking is a joint initiative of Kerry Recreation and Sports Partnership, made possible by partnering with Kerry County Council and Information Technology, Tralee. A full schedule of activities and events is available at: http://www.getkerrywalking.ie
