New bill proposed to amend Irish Employment Act

Deputy Anne Ferris is to propose a bill to the government that would amend the Employment Act 1998. The proposed bill from Deputy Ferris would scrap the compulsory retirement age of 65 that is currently in place for public servants.

If the bill is passed it would see Ireland following a similar retirement plan as in the United Kingdom and the United States in that employees would be able to choose when they retire from work once they have passed 65 years of age.
