The first Dublin Sci-Fi Film Festival kicks off today
Science fiction fans among you, rejoice! The first Dublin Sci-Fi Film Festival (DSFFF) kicks off today.
Running from May 5 to 7, the festival begins with a special restoration of The Fifth Element to celebrate the movie’s 20th anniversary.
Over the weekend there will be a mix of new movies, old classics and short films, screened in The Lighthouse Cinema, as well as in the Generator Hostel (literally right across Smithfield square from The Lighthouse).
The DSFFF will also bring two other classics to the Light House Cinema this year: Fred M. Wilcox’s Forbidden Planet (1956), starring Leslie Nielsen and Walter Pidgeon and a late night screening of the psychedelic cult movie Barbella (1968) starring Jane Fonda.
On Saturday afternoon the Light House will feature the Mexican director Amat Escalante’s The Untamed, a surreal and thrilling sci-fi drama.
For a full list of films and tickets for all the shows can be booked via the festival website www.dublinscifi.com.
