The most unusual golf courses in the world
Taking a day to yourself to hit the golf course is one sure fire way to relieve stress and relax, obviously depending on how good you are. A lot of us count down the days until we can get away for another golfing break to forget our worries and simply concentrate on sinking that all important putt. As relaxing as it can be it can also be a source of great frustration. The tricky fairways, the sandy bunkers and the ponds that always seem to suck the ball into them can leave us tearing our hair out. If you are a keen golfer however, and fancy pitting your skills on a golf course that is a bit different and challenging, here is a list of some of the world’s most unusual golf courses.
Le Touessrok Golf Course, Mauritius
This stunning golf course is on the five-star resort which is located on the island of Ile Aux Cerfs, just off the East coast of Mauritius. The beautiful location alone should be enough to entice you to visit but the golf course will certainly make your mind up for you.
Locally known as the ‘jewel in the resort’s crown’, the Le Touessrok Golf Course is situated on its own desert island, just across the water via a 10 minute boat taxi from the mainland resort.
The challenging course is an18-hole, par 72 championship course that is surrounded by coral reefs and a volcanic mountain that surrounds the island and provides tremendous visual delight for those who are walking up and down its fairways.
Pokhara Golf Course, Nepal
Pokhara sits in the heart of the Himalayan Mountains of Nepal, and is renowned for its jaw dropping mountain scenery. In recent times it has also become haven for golfers to revel in the unique experience offered by the course which is situated within a unique river canyon. The clubhouse sits 250 feet above the canyon and offers breathtaking views of the entire nine-hole course.
The surrounding canyon walls are lined with stunning waterfalls and eagles nests, with a calming soundtrack played in surround sound by the Himalayan snow-fed river nearby. This course is like none other on the planet. It has a uniqueness that is equally matched by its sheer beauty.
World Ice Golf Championship, Greenland
This course is located in one of the most breathtaking landscapes on earth and is probably the most unusual golf course there is. This nine-hole course is played in Uummannaq, Greenland and is home to the World Ice Golf Championship, and the tournament is played in the harshest temperatures. To add to that obstacle the green is white as it is covered in white snow and the golf balls are bright orange.
The course is constantly changing due to the moving icebergs which are designed by the architect of the unique golf course; the ocean. This means that even during the championships the course is only actually cut out a few days before to ensure it is still there come tournament time.
