Work had just begun on the new Command & Control HQ for An Garda Síochána but has been paused due to the ongoing Covid 19 Crisis.

The €80m project on Military Road in Kilmainham saw final tenders closed last December and is to replace the current base in Harcourt Square.

Policing funding in Budget 2020 was increased by €122 million to €1.88 billion. The capital allocation to An Garda Síochána in 2020 is €116.5 million.

The Garda Building and Refurbishment Programme 2016-2021 is based on agreed Garda priorities and will include:

• facilities for meeting victims of crime,
• Essential remedial works to existing stations,
• Large-scale property and exhibit management stores (PEMS), and
• Upgrade of cells and improved custody-management facilities.
