Gardai to combat mobile phone use by motorists
An Garda Siochana have announced that over 28,000 people were pulled over by on duty Garda for using mobile phones while driving in 2013 They have also said that around 10,000 people have already been caught for the same offence in 2014.
To combat this constant problem and to raise public awareness surrounding the issue An Garda Siochana are planning a ‘targeted mobile phone enforcement operation’ on April 24 and 25, with the aim of reducing the number of people who use mobile phones while driving.
Speaking about the issue Assistant Garda Commissioner, John Twomey commented “We all know how distracting mobile phones can be in any situation, except in the car it can have fatal consequences. Driving requires 100% concentration. The choice is yours. To avoid penalty points, a fine or worse, always put the phone away when driving.”
