Laser cards to become obsolete at the end of the month

Laser cards will become obsolete from the 28th of February. From midnight on the 28th of February we will no longer be able to use the laser card as they have been replaced by Visa and MasterCard debit cards. The Irish Payment Services Organisation has announced that if customers attempt to use their laser card after the 28th you will only receive an error message.

It was last year when AIB and Bank of Ireland announced that they were to replace Laser cards with Visa and Mastercard debit cards which would enable cardholders to pay for some purchases with ‘contactless’ technology. Most Banks in the country have been in the process of replacing the Laser cards with new debit cards, but if you haven’t received one yet you would be advised to contact your bank.
