Have you consumed your seven-a-day?

We have always been told that to keep a healthy lifestyle we should be looking to consume at least 5 pieces of fruit and vegetables every day.  However a new study has suggested that consuming at least seven portions of fruit and vegetables every day may offer a person the best chance of reducing their risk of death from all causes.

The health benefits of consuming the right daily amount of fruit and vegetables has long been acknowledged as an important health measure, and up until now people were recommended to consume at least five potions per day.
The study which was carried out in the United Kingdom recently, examined data relating to 65,000 adults aged 35 and older over a seven-year period. During the seven years, almost 4,400 of the participants died.

The research indicated that consuming fruit and vegetables was linked with a lower risk of death overall, including deaths from cancer, heart disease and stroke.     They found that consuming seven or more portions every day was associated with a 42% lower risk of death from all causes, a 31% lower risk of death from heart disease and stroke, and a 25% lower risk of death from cancer.
