Minister for Justice Welcomes 3 Key Publications for An Garda Síochána

The Minister for Justice Helen McEntee has welcomed the release of 3 key publications for An Garda Síochána:

  • An Garda Síochána Policing Plan 2022
  • An Garda Síochána Strategy Statement 2022-2024
  • Policing Priorities 2022 – 2024

The Minister said, “I want to commend the members and staff of An Garda Síochána and the Policing Authority for the hard work that has culminated in the publication today of these 3 key planning documents. This year marks 100 years of An Garda Síochána, and this is a crucial time for policing in this country as we work together to implement the recommendations made by the Commission on the Future of Policing in Ireland.”

“The priorities outlined in these publications demonstrate a welcome focus on people, whether we are talking about victims of crime, vulnerable or elderly people, or indeed any person who requires the assistance of An Garda Síochána from time to time, whether they are even aware of it or not. This is central to our shared focus on ‘community safety’, a concept which goes beyond my department and An Garda Síochána alone but which is a cornerstone of our collective vision for a policing service that is valued for the public service it provides.”

The government is committed to supporting the work of An Garda Síochána. Funding provided to the Garda Commissioner continues to increase to unprecedented levels, with an allocation of €2 billion in funding for this year. This includes provision of €147 million for ICT and Building Programme and ongoing investment in the Transport fleet, which means more high visibility policing in our towns and cities.

This continuing investment is intended to ensure that An Garda Síochána has a modern, effective and fit-for-purpose fleet and that Gardaí can be mobile, visible and responsive on the roads and in the community to prevent and tackle crime.
