Yale University put on lockdown after anonymous phone call
There were scenes of chaos yesterday at one of the United States most prestiegous university’s when authorities were given an anonymous tip -off that there was a man armed with a gun on the campus. An anonymous phone call was made to police at 9:30 am yesterday, when the caller issued a warning to them that his roommate was making his way to the University campus planning to shoot people.
The University was immediately put on lockdown by the New Haven Police Department and two other people had confirmed seeing a man near the campus carrying a gun. Speaking about the anonymous tip off David Hartman, a spokesman for the Police Department said “All he really said was that his roommate was on his way to the university, to Yale University, to shoot people.”
No gunman was found at the scene and all local schools were also placed on lockdown. This is not the first time that the University has been the target of violence. In 2003 an explosive caused damage to an empty classroom in the building and in 1993, David J. Gelernter was seriously injured when a letter bomb sent by the Unabomber Theodore Kaczynski exploded in his office.
